Our mission is to promote, support, and develop our members, and the sector more broadly.

As part of our commitment to support, we always act in a way that enhances the well-being of members, offering them meaningful membership benefits and support.

We’ve set out some of our core benefits below. For less than the cost of a cup of fancy coffee a week, you will get access to all this and more.

Cutting Edge is our quarterly publication for our members. Full of updates from the IOC and the Carpentry & Joinery sector, it’s an essential read for those in the trade. You can read our Autumn 2025 edition here, so you can understand what to expect from your membership going forward. A printed copy will be posted to you every 3 months, along with a digital copy sent by email.

Glue Up is our membership platform. You’ll create your profile and have the opportunity to network with other members, book on events, and access your membership benefits. There’s also an interactive wall, where you can share examples of your work, and comment or like posts from other members. Think of it as a private network just for just the IOC.

We want you to feel your membership represents value for money. We provide several exclusive offers for you, including a discounted insurance scheme for only IOC members, high street discounts via Wider Wallet, discounts on tools and materials, and reduced cost AA membership to name a few of our offers for members. You’ll find the full list in Glue Up – our membership platform.

Our members are awarded with designatory letters which helps make your mark. Whether you’re a Licentiate (LIOC), Member (MIOC), or Fellow (FIOC), you’ll be able to demonstrate to clients, employers, and colleagues, that you have met the entrance criteria for your relevant professional body.

Members (MIOC) and Fellows (FIOC) of the Institute of Carpenters can apply for a CSCS PQP Card. CSCS cards prove those on construction sites have the right training and qualifications for their job. CSCS is not a legal requirement, but is increasingly the main way of managing site access and establishing competence.

The IOC hosts several events throughout the year, with the aim of bringing our members together to network and grow. Our Annual General Meeting and Members Day is the traditional national event, and we also host regional events and competitions through our network of College members.

IOC members can access our eLearning Platform, EdApp, where they can take micro-learning lessons and be certificated. Many of our courses are backed by RoSPA – the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
