Find a professional you can trust
Choosing a carpenter or joiner can be stressful. Every craftsperson in our directory has been independently assessed by the Institute, and has committed to our Code of Conduct.
Find a member near you
Our new directory opens soon
We’re moving Find a Professional onto our new membership system, so you can search IOC Members and Fellows by name, town, county and area of expertise.
Need a carpenter or joiner now? Contact Head Office on 01296 625518 or info@instituteofcarpenters.com and we’ll help you find a member.
Your listing, your choice
If you chose to appear in the member directory when you joined, you’ll be listed with your name, grade, company, town, county and areas of expertise. Visitors see your email and phone only when they click “Show contact details”.
Prefer not to be listed? Before the directory opens:
- Log in to your IOC member account.
- Open your membership.
- Under Member Directory Visibility, set “Show profile in Member Directory” to No.
You can change your mind at any time.

Independently checked
Members are approved only after we assess their qualifications, track record and references. Only members at MIOC grade and above are listed here.
Bound by our Code
Every member commits to our Code of Conduct – integrity, competence, professionalism and respect for their clients.
Always improving
IOC members keep their skills current through ongoing learning, including the WOMA Academy.
Good practice for clients
- Ask for references and examples of similar work
- Check they have the competence for your project
- Agree the scope, price and timings in writing
- Look for MIOC or FIOC after their name
The Institute of Carpenters provides this search facility so that members can advertise their services. Inclusion does not mean the Institute endorses any individual or company.
Clients should ask for references and satisfy themselves of a member’s competence. The Institute accepts no liability for any dispute between a listed craftsperson and their client.
Listed members have passed recognised craft examinations or a formal interview. The directory is not a complete list of members, as some choose not to be listed – contact Head Office if you can’t find who you’re looking for.
We can help
Not every member chooses to be listed. Contact Head Office and we’ll help you find a suitable member in your area.
Get listed
Members at MIOC grade and above can be listed here, where customers look for vetted craftspeople. Already a member? Set “Show profile in Member Directory” to Yes on your membership, and keep your town, county and areas of expertise up to date.
