The Competence Framework for Site Carpentry and Fire Door Instillation has been released and is now published for industry consultation and feedback. This is a topic that the IOC has provided regular updates on, but for anyone unsure of what a Competence Framework is and why it is important, you can visit the CITB’s website for further information.
The Site Carpentry and Fire Door Instillation Framework is published here and the form to provide feedback is here. You are also welcome to contact Amanda Scott, UK Skills Lead at the IOC and NAS, by emailing: we are always listening and feel free to contact me at any point – amanda.scott@shopfitters.org.
Amanda has made the following comments about the Framework:
There are three key points I would like to address as a foreword:
– The IOC and NAS are heavily involved in the SLG10 Competence Frameworks Working Group. The work of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Wood Occupations led by the IOC and NAS, although deeply connected to each other must be treated as two separate entities.
– The IOC has supported the British Woodworking Federation to produce this draft, however from the craft perspective, the work on the deep technical dive of the SKEB Statements (Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviour) for Site Carpentry 1st and 2nd Fix, Shopfitting Bench Work and Shopfitting Site Work is still ongoing through the NOS National Working Group, and technical specialists that work with me as the Chair. What you will see in the consultation is a top line overview of the SKEB only. I will be releasing the craft based SKEB statements for you all to review as soon as possible.
– The IOC was not directly involved in the Fire Door Installation Competence Frameworks development. It is important that we do however review where possible.
Your insight to evaluate the work completed so far in meeting the competence requirements of our sector is invaluable. Thank you again to all our members in supporting us in the major IOC works dominating the skills and competence arena in the Post Grenfell world we are now in.
The CITB has scheduled a webinar for the Site Carpentry and Fire Door Instillation Framework. Amanda will be in attendance, but you are also free to register to attend using this link.
