We’re delighted to welcome Lumin as our newest Corporate Member, strengthening our network of industry leaders committed to sustainable timber and high-quality craftsmanship.
With over 20 years of experience, Lumin is one of Uruguay’s leading timberland and forest product companies, managing 128,000 hectares of sustainably managed forests. Their operations include plywood and veneer manufacturing, a clonal seedling nursery, and a co-generation facility, ensuring a responsible and efficient approach to timber production.
A Commitment to Sustainable Forestry
Owned by a consortium of long-term institutional investors, including BTG Pactual’s Timberland Investment Group (TIG) and the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), Lumin operates under the highest environmental and social standards. Their commitment to sustainable forestry and responsible investment aligns with the values of the IOC and the wider timber industry.
TIG, one of the largest forestry investment management organisations, has 3 million acres under management and has been committed to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2015. Their dedication to FSC® and PEFC-certified forestry ensures that wood products come from responsibly managed sources.
Innovation in Timber Production
Lumin’s use of clonal technology in their Tacuarembó seedling nursery allows them to grow high-quality trees efficiently, ensuring a trustworthy supply of wood products for national, regional, and global markets. Their state-of-the-art plywood and veneer manufacturing facility further supports the production of premium materials for construction and carpentry.
As a Corporate Member of the IOC, Lumin joins a community dedicated to advancing craftsmanship, sustainability, and excellence in woodworking. We look forward to working together to promote the highest standards in the industry.
