The 46th competition will be held at West Nottinghamshire College (WNC), Unit 1, Station Park, Julias Way, Kirkby In Ashfield, Nottinghamshire NG17 7RB on Wednesday, 30 April 2025.
The competition was founded by Nottingham based IOC member George Merlane in 1977. It provides friendly rivalry amongst colleges as their chosen students compete in a four-hour skills project. It is bench-based and incorporates both carpentry and joinery in a wide variety of forms from roofing to floor trimming from gates to serving hatches
Are You Willing & Able?
The Merlane Trophy committee is looking for some new blood to strengthen the team. After many years of service, some of the existing members are looking to stand down from the competition; so now is the right time to get involved and start the process of getting the next competition underway.
This year’s Merlane Trophy is the 46th event and in the past has been held in numerous college venues from Grimsby in the north of the region to Northampton in the south, from Boston in the east to Derby in the west. Any Institute members within the overall competition area (or wider) who are willing to help and join the team are encouraged to email the Treasurer, David R Winson MBA FIOC via info@instituteofcarpenters.com with an expression of interest.
We look forward to hearing from you.
