Exploring the Future of Timber in Construction: WiMFIF Event at NMITE

Institute of Carpenters Posted on 05/03/2025 by Denise05/03/2025

At the IOC, we’re always keen to spotlight events that drive innovation in timber construction and sustainable forestry. That’s why we’re encouraging members and industry professionals to attend the Timber in Construction Woodlands into Management Forest Innovation Fund (WiMFIF) event at NMITE Skylon Campus on 18 March 2025.

Why Attend?

This free event marks the conclusion of several Forestry Commission WiMFIF projects, including Building from England’s Woodlands and the Commercialisation of Homegrown Wood Fibre Insulation projects, led by NMITE in collaboration with BE-ST, Edinburgh Napier University, dRMM, EcoSystems, and the University of Edinburgh.

It’s a unique opportunity to:

🌲 Learn from leading research into homegrown timber and its potential in construction.

πŸ—οΈ Explore modern methods of construction using sawn, engineered, and mass timber products, such as CLT and glulam.

🌍 Understand the impact of timber on carbon reduction and how sustainable forestry supports climate resilience.

πŸ” See live demonstrations, exhibits, and interactive displays showcasing new developments in timber construction.

🀝 Network with industry professionals and explore future collaboration opportunities.

πŸ“Œ Expert presentations from research teams across NMITE, University of Cambridge, CloudForest, Architype, and Grown in Britain.

πŸ“Œ Panel discussions exploring how WiMFIF projects bridge the gap between forestry and construction.

πŸ“Œ Hands-on exhibits demonstrating cutting-edge timber technology and sustainable materials.

πŸ“Œ Workshops on future opportunities for collaboration and funding in timber research.

Event Schedule Highlights

πŸ“… Date: 18 March 2025

πŸ“ Location: NMITE Skylon Campus
